CMV-associated hemophagocytic syndrome: a case report

Seven years old girl was admitted to hospital with the complaints of high fever, fatigue, sore throat. Physical examination revealed bilateral cervical lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly. Pancytopenia, hypertriglyceridemia, hyperferritinemia and hypofibrinogenemia, CMV IgM and CMV DNA positivity were determined. Hemophagocytosis was seen in bone marrow aspiration. She was treated with gancyclovir, intravenous immunglobuline and pulse methylprednisolone.
