ABSTRACT

The cornea which has lost its function and transparency by any reason is changed with cornea taken from a dead body. The journey of cornea from the time it is taken from a dead body in a morgue up to the time it is placed into the recipient’s eye in an operating room takes place in a legal and scientific discipline. The foundation which provides the cornea to the ophthalmologist in this discipline is the eye bank.

The aim of this article is to introduce these foundations to the ophthalmologist and review how to get a scientifically prepared cornea while protecting the ophthalmologist from prosecution.
