ABSTRACT
Objective:
Telogen effluvium (TE) type hair loss is a condition that is commonly seen in dermatology clinics and this disease has multiple etiologic reasons. We had done this research at TE type patients to determine serum ferritin, vit B12, folic acid , and thyroid function tests
Material and Methods:
In this research, 563 female patients who admitted to Education and Research Hospital’s dermatology outpatient clinics with TE is studied retrospectively. The tests were performed in SPSS 16.0 program to investigate the frequency of the laboratory tests abnormalities.
Results:
Serum ferritin levels were low in 174 patients (30.91%), serum iron levels were low in 77 patients (13.68%), hematocrit levels were low in 54 patients (9.59%), vitamin B12 levels were low in 17 patients (3.02%), folic acid levels were low in 51 patients (9.06%), serum T4 levels were low in 3 patients (0.53%) and TSH levels were low in 8 patients (1.15%) due to reference ranges.
Conclusion:
Since the reasons can differ in TE etiology, in our opinion, biochemical tests, complete blood count and hormonal tests must be done in all TE patients.
