ABSTRACT

Smoking is the most preventable cause of death in the world in current medical practice. Smoking cessation decreases the risk of lung cancer, other cancers, heart attack, stroke, and chronic lung disease. Primary care physicians’ advices, even very brief ones, have been proven to be the most succesfull approach in a smoker’s attempt to quit. Therefore, each physician working as a primary care provider should consider smoking as an important public health issue to be taken care of, and treat smoking addiction as a chronic disease. It will be a good attempt to use the appropriate pharmacological agents supporting the clinical interviews.
